Roadside assistance provided by our Red Pennant product can help you if you breakdown whilst touring abroad. We are not able to accept cancellation requests of annual multi-trip policies issued prior to 1 January 2020.

By the time I reached home at the end of February in 2020, Covid had arrived on the scene and I haven’t needed Red Pennant since. tiz', if you took out RP insurance in January this year was it an annual policy, if so then they should not have sold it to you as they were fully aware that you could not travel and effectively 'use that policy if needed'. If it was a one off policy for a date in August then I feel that it was unfair of them to take your money and should have advised you to take out the policy nearer to the date of travel when one would know what the situation would be with respect to foreign tarvel and Covid restrictions. The daft thing is that as it's a new vehicle we have free breakdown and recovery from Fiat and our Safeguard insurance also includes UK and Europe recovery.

On my return to the UK I was so appalled with the service provided that I made a formal complaint to the Director General of The Caravan Club, who accepted that there where failings in the service provided, which resulted in undisclosed compensation being made. One thing to bear in mind though, especially for us tuggers, is you must make sure your breakdown cover is "caravan friendly". This is, obviously, very very important. You need to make sure your caravan will be recovered in the event of your car breaking down whilst you are away from your caravan. And, of course, you will need your caravan covered in case you gave any issues with that (breaks, hitch etc). The C&CC/RAC policy covers all that. I assume Staysure does too. Many "bog standard" breakdown policies will not. We used to enjoy our trips abroad but since we had the refusal other things, like COVID have intervened and I can't see us taking the motorhome abroad again. I think we are also reviewing our UK touring and I think if we manage to achieve what we have set out to do this year the experience will be used to decide how we proceed in future years. So there we are. It's now as clear as mud. A caravan needs to be serviced as a condition of Red Pennant. Or it may not.

However in 2018 I experienced a medical problem which necessitated me being admitted to a Hospital in France for several days where I received various tests and treatment. On my discharge from Hospital my Wife told me that she had never felt so alone in her life thanks to Red Pennant.In fact dealing with Red Pennant was more stressful than the medical incident itself. I have lost count of the number of Club surveys I have completed asking for a menu system for breakdown cover including the options mentioned above. I can understand all of the points made but it should come down to what members want so that our Club gives
